Both the magazine "WirtschaftsWoche" and the magazine "Focus" honor the work of our law firm with prestigious awards. For "WirtschaftsWoche" (issue 36/2021), we are again among Germany's "Top Law Firms for Environmental and Planning Law 2021". At the same time, our partners Dr. Lutz Krahnefeld and Dr. Markus Ehrmann received the award "Top Lawyer for Environmental and Planning Law 2021". "We are very pleased about this recognition. Above all, it goes to the entire law firm team, without which none of us would be able to deliver the required top performance," says law firm partner Dr. Markus Ehrmann.

For the research, the Handelsblatt Research Institute had surveyed more than 1,100 lawyers in 24 law firms on behalf of "WirtschaftsWoche" and had the answers evaluated by a jury of experts. The result is a list of 34 leading law firms and 51 highly recommended lawyers for environmental and construction planning law.

The “Focus" magazine also found our performance noteworthy and awarded us the title "Top Commercial Law Firm for Environmental Law in Germany 2021."

Our partners Dr. Lutz Krahnefeld and Dr. Markus Ehrmann are among "Germany's Best Lawyers 2021" according to the current "Handelsblatt" ranking. Dr. Krahnefeld received this title for the areas of public commercial law and environmental law, Dr. Ehrmann for energy law. The ranking is the result of a Germany-wide survey of around 5,000 commercial lawyers and in-house counsel conducted by the renowned US publisher "Best Lawyers". 

"The Handelsblatt thus confirms the consistently good work of the entire firm. The team deserves the recognition, even if a lawyer ranking cannot reflect this overall performance," says Dr. Markus Ehrmann. 

"Best Lawyer" is the leading international recommendation portal for lawyers in business law. Only lawyers who have been recommended by professional colleagues in an elaborate process make it into the first round of selection. This is followed by a peer-to-peer survey among Germany's commercial lawyers as to which colleagues they would recommend if they were unable to accept a mandate themselves. The evaluations have been published exclusively by "Handelsblatt" for years.  

The business magazine "brandeins" has awarded Köchling & Krahnefeld in the ranking "The best commercial law firms in Germany" in environmental law, water and wastewater law and ranks us among the 15 best German law firms in this legal field. In our home market of Hamburg, we are even ranked 2nd.

About the methodology: the brandeins editorial team, in cooperation with the market research company Statista, had asked almost 15,000 lawyers and in-house counsel at the end of 2020 for their recommendations for German commercial law firms. Of these, 2,515 lawyers (17%) participated in the survey with individual responses.

‘WirtschaftsWoche’ names us as one of Germany’s most reputable law firms for environmental and construction planning law.

According to research conducted by the Handelsblatt Research Institute on behalf of the ‘WirtschaftsWoche’ business magazine, Köchling & Krahnefeld is among Germany’s most reputable law firms for environmental and construction planning law (issue 39/2020). Only 29 law offices nationwide received the coveted title of ‘Top Law Firm for Environmental and Construction Planning Law 2020’. What’s more, 42 lawyers were personally named as ‘Top Lawyer for Environmental and Construction Planning Law 2020’ – including our founding partner Dr Lutz Krahnefeld.

The rankings are based on a survey of 903 lawyers from 103 German law firms who nominated their most reputable colleagues in environmental and construction planning law. Following on the heels of awards from the magazines ‘brandeins’ and ‘Focus’ as well as the ‘Handelsblatt’ newspaper, this is now the fourth award for Köchling & Krahnefeld in 2020.

‘Focus’ magazine crowned Köchling & Krahnefeld Top Corporate Law Firm for Environmental Law for the eighth year in succession in September 2020. This was based on recommendations from colleagues following a survey of 1,540 lawyers in Germany. The ranking was published on 5 September 2020 in the special legal edition of ‘Focus’.
 
Alongside the award itself, we are particularly pleased that our consistently good work is also recognised by our colleagues.

The publishing company JUVE has named Köchling & Krahnefeld in its renowned handbook “Wirtschaftskanzleien 2019/2020” as one of the top 25 German law firms for environmental and planning law. “This firm has made a name for itself in environmental and planning law, particularly with infrastructure projects in the energy sector,” the jury wrote. JUVE especially recommended the lawyers Dr. Lutz Krahnefeld and Dr. Markus Ehrmann (quote: “recognised expert and excellent legal practitioner”). Dr. Ehrmann was also named one of the “leading consultant in environmental and planning law (under the age of 50”). Only five other legal practitioners throughout Germany received this award. JUVE also considers our law firm among the leading German law firms in the field of energy law.
